Cap and trade is the target of this wingnut email. One of my “conservative” friends keeps sending inflammatory emails. The one today appears to be designed to scare ordinary folks into thinking that Obama will steal your house, and maybe your firstborn child. No mention that you already need to meet various requirements to get financing.

We encourage you to read the provisions of the Cap and Trade Bill that has passed the House of Representatives and being considered by the Senate. We are ready to join the next march on Washington! This Congress and whoever on their staffs that write this junk are truly out to destroy the middle class of the USA ....
A License required for your house...no longer just for cars and mobile homes....
Let me say at the start, that I have not read this bill, and for this purpose am willing to take the email at face value. I have found a lot of falsehood in similar previous polemics, but since I do not have a ready source to research this I will accept that it has the basics right -- for now.
The main complaint seems to be that houses will be required to be retrofitted to meet certain energy standards. Apparently the retrofit will be paid by the government unless your income is sufficiently high, in which case you might have to finance your own home improvement. Woe is me, life is hard for the downtrodden rich. Of course there is no mention that energy retrofits have exceedingly short payback periods.
There is a lot of false outrage about house minimum standards, trying to make it look like this is a new policy from Obama. In reality, there are already a whole set of minimum standards that have to be met in order to get a government guarantee of the sale. Most likely this is just another of those requirements, but the email makes it look like the end of the world.
In short, lots of heat, very little light.
